Ben Shen, Analyst

Born and raised in Shanghai, Ben moved to New Zealand with family when he was 15. He has a PhD in Economics from the University of Auckland, a master’s degree from the University of Otago, also in Economics, and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Canterbury. His research focuses on economic growth in China in the post-reform period.

Prior to joining TDB Advisory, Ben worked in the Forecasting and Costing team at the Ministry of Social Development where he helped forecast 3 benefit payments – Special Benefit, Child Disability Allowance, and Youth Payment/Young Parent Payment. He was also a user of the Effective Marginal Tax Rate model. Outside of work, Ben enjoys reading, listening to music, and going to the movies.
