Nigel Atherfold, Director (Chch)

Nigel joined TDB in 2006 and has more than 30 years’ experience in finance, covering corporate finance, treasury risk management and banking.

His sector experience includes agribusiness, banking, government (local and central), infrastructure, iwi and Māori enterprises, manufacturing and private equity.

Over the last eight years much of Nigel’s time has been devoted to primary sector governance.  Current and recent primary sector directorships include Terracostosa Limited (Chair), Landcorp Farming Limited (Acting & Deputy Chair), Rural Equities Limited (Health & Safety Chair), Ngāi Tahu Farming (Audit & Risk Chair), Miraka Limited (Audit & Risk Chair), Spring Sheep Dairy (Audit & Risk Chair), and Hopkins Farming Group Limited.  Nigel is also a director of the commercial property investor Shopping Centre Investments Limited.

Recent advisory work Nigel has completed includes reviews and advice on governance and organisational structure, strategy, investment appraisal, treasury risk management, ethical behaviour, public policy, fair value, and commercialisation.

Prior to joining TDB Advisory, Nigel was ANZ’s Regional Executive in the South Island and prior to that was Corporate Finance Manager at the New Zealand Dairy Board.  He is also a past lecturer in International Corporate Finance at Victoria University of Wellington in the Master of Applied Finance program.

Nigel has a Bachelor of Management Studies (Economics) and a Master of Business Studies (Finance).

He is a former New Zealand rowing representative and New Zealand juniors rowing coach and currently coaches secondary school rowing in Christchurch.
